  ETSAKOR PROVERBS ETSAKOR DIALECT: Uno nor le umhe khor mor orbe. TRANSLATION: The mouth that tasted salt has no evil. MEANING: Anyone who has experienced good or virtue from another or has benefited from anything, can no longer speak or act in a bad way about them. LIFE APPLICATION:   Salt is reputed for good or savory taste. So, it's always a pleasure to taste of it. On the other hand, Sour tastes, bitter tastes are seen as bad. And bad things are generally considered as evil; just as anything Just or any virtue is seen as good.   Since tasting salt makes the mouth feels good, it applies therefore that such a mouth can no longer feel or experience anything bad thereafter. In conclusion, those who have had the pleasure of enjoying the benefits or usefulness of a commodity or have been helped by another or enjoyed the services of another can no longer speak evil or act in a bad way about them. /ETSAKOR PROVERBS   ETSAKOR DIALECT: Erler ni ugwa ower or vheno akatsi, orni erler li lor ye apfer. TRANSLATION: The day that the limb disappoints a horse, that same day, he goes home. MEANING:   A horse is renown for not sleeping. Instead of sleeping, it only rests, standing on its limbs! So, its limbs are not only important for the many activities and journeys that it shall complete but also relevant for resting while standing!   Consequently, whenever its limbs are damaged through injury or infection, it either dies or it is killed. This inevitable end becomes necessary because the horse can not survive without any of its limbs. LIFE APPLICATION:   In life, some people occupy social, economic, political or religious position; class, status or office. They could be rich, famous, powerful and well connected.   /ETSAKOR PROVERBS ETSAKOR DIALECT: Orere khor ghi orya le emale di okotor ukpade. TRANSLATION: A stranger does not eat with the host to the bottom of the bowl. MEANING: One who is invited to a meal or dinner often eats cautiously or carefully. LIFE APPLICATION:   In different aspects of our social life, every society has codes of behaviour expected of individuals. In the work place there are ethics of standard behaviour that govern each trade or practice. Certain behaviour of some individuals, for example, if not checked, may fall short of the required level of decorum.   Similarly, when people gather in social events such as marriage ceremonies or dinners, there is a standard of behaviour expected of those who are invited. No matter how hungry you are when invited to dinner, your behaviour must not portray you as a hungry man.   /Etsakor Proverbs ETSAKOR DIALECT: Khai ri eryuor der na kie wun orli uwai. TRANSLATION: Never sell a rabbit and still hold it's tail. MEANING: Never express ownership interest on already disposed belongings. LIFE APPLICATION:   In life, greed or avarice in human beings often appear in business transactions. Some people are driven by avarice or greed to the extent that they resort to fraud in order to maximize gains. It hurts them to part with the good they already own but they are eager to collect the proceeds from the sale of such good. So, they are at crossroads, not sure whether or not to sell it. This Proverb is a counsel against such fraudulent practices in trade or business.   It goes without saying that this human greed or avarice also rear it's unfortunate head in the social political aspects of our lives. It occurs in situations where, business, official, or political responsibility is delegated to someone, who is not mandated with the full authority to overse...

 ETSAKOR DIALECT  Onor yor khi orya vhevhe or kpele lor; emor ata, lor kpele egbor li. TRANSLATION: He that announces that he has been insulted by another person; he actually, insulted himself. MEANING: Anyone who declared publicly the reproach that he suffered from another person; has infact insulted himself. LIFE APPLICATION:   Reproach of any kind is evil. At times, some people suffer from the insults or reproaches of other people. Very often, not many people may have been there at the time of the reproach. Therefore, many people may not have heard of it. But where the victim goes about announcing how he was insulted, then, it is most likely that many of those who heard of his reproaches may have heard from the victim's own mouth! Therefore, it is admonished that in the face of reproach, the victim ought to be patient. /ETSAKOR PROVERBS
