ETSAKOR DIALECT:
1. Orda orde kpo lor ghu ye alimhi apfer na tser la.
2. Elimhi lor khi apfer ni mha ye.
3. Eme gbe alimhi oder vhi agbor, khor vha gbe nabi uku ewor.
TRANSLATION:
1. Everyone dies unto their own ancestry.
2. Elimhi - (The Spiritual Abode of the dead) is the family where we return.
3. The veil which separates earthly life and the spiritual abode of the dead is. not as thick as a film of smoke.
MEANING:
Through death, man returns to his origins. The ancestry of man called alimhi in the Proverb, is an abode of spiritual beings, where it is believed that man was created; and there, he came from.
There, it is possible to recognize related, previously connected or familiar beings. There is the eventual return of the spirits of the dead. This Proverb describes the location of the spiritual abode to be within the earth; and among the living! The only veil of separation between the kingdom of the spirits of the dead and the living is the form of existence or realms of existence.
LIFE APPLICATION:
The Scientific approach to the study of the life of man is confined to his physical nature or existence. This established theory views man as purely biological and organic. In this way, man came to life through an embryo, which is formed when an egg is fertilized by a sperm cell. And at death, man returns through decay to fertilize the earth.
But Religions have always viewed the life of man beyond the physical boundaries. The faith in God empowers us to know that beyond the life on earth, man has a spiritual existence. This approach implies that man is both a physical and a spiritual being. It is believed that when the male sperm cell fertilizes the female ovum or egg, and becomes a clot of blood. It is only the introduction of The Spirit of God, in the form of breath, air or gas that gives it life! So, man thrives in both the physical and the spiritual life, until death.
At death, his body returns to fertilize the earth; but his soul which represents his spiritual being, leaves the body as the breath, air or gas to rejoin the Sovereign or the Eternal Spirit of God. This means that the journey of the life of man continues thereafter. In some religions, the spirit of the dead, rest with their ancestors or fathers. See 1 Kings 11: 43; 1 Kings 1:10.
Many Religions of the world describe Heaven or Hell as the next phase of the journey of man. Generally, these two terms are used to refer to a place for The Saved and The Condemned. Curiously, many of these world Religions have not clarified the location of the heavens or the hell.
Explicitly, the Proverb is an indication of the abode,: kingdom or whereabouts, of the spirit of the dead; whether they are asleep or active, to be with their ancestors, at Elimhi. That is, an abode for the spirits, situated on earth, where it is possible to recognize those who belong to the same Family Tree. It is no wonder then, that oral evidence exist here, in Africa and elsewhere in the world; of people, who have extraordinary gifts to see, hear or feel beyond physical boundaries.
As Christians, we believe in the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, being a propitiation for our Redemption to eternal life. This is the grace that we enjoy to be 'GRAFTED' onto a new but also, a different family tree of Salvation!( Romans 11: 17 - 26; Galatians 3: - 29 ). In Christianity, Jesus Christ said in the Bible; in Luke 17: 20 - 21; 'The kingdom of God is within you'.
Oral records have it that some people have the powers of Telepathic Communication. While others yet, after some days of abstinence from food and drinks; or Near Death Experiences, as a result of sickness or injury; have seen, felt or heard from spirit beings or apparitions of their late relatives or ancestors. For corroborations, even in the Scriptures in the Bible, check out 2 Kings 20:21 - Ezekaiah slept with his fathers; Acts 7: 56; for related readings.
Succinctly, this Proverb in /Edo Language has taught that the living and the dead cohabit the earth but are separated; and that is to say, that the life of man continues after death. This obviously, sharply contrasts the scientific approach to the study of man's life.
